Nothing much going on artistic-wise. Been jotting down little bits of all the random ideas I have floating about in my head. My story about space privateers, SW fanfiction, historical, supernatural, superhero, and now zombie survival. There's so much bouncing around up there that I can't really set myself to writing one.
The space privateer story, tentatively titled 'Marque of Battle," is my baby. It's all original to me, and I'm holding it close like Smeagol with The Precious. Probably an inflated opinion of my writing's worthy but I'm actually afraid to post any of "Marque of Battle" should I get significant parts of it typed up because I think someone might try to copy it. I have a little dream in my head about publishing it. There's a niche, no good true pirate or privateer novels out there. Everyone seems to follow some odd "Motion Picture Code of the 1940s"-esque manner were the pirate always reforms or joins the navy which might have hunted him and/or kicked him out. I've said it once, but where's the fun in that?
Then there's Star Wars, my first love and foray into writing. I've done a great bit of campstorming on my main character Errant making him more...edgy?...don't know if that's the word, but he's Mandalorian. Pirate societies and warrior societies have always fascinated me as they're just a departure from what's normal, at least from a Western stand point. As a halfbred, Errant is both of those, a fusion and a collision of both. That's intriguing to me.
Historical fiction...pirates. That's what I want to write, but just don't know what time, which culture, and type of pirate. My little scrap about an American ship that turns British privateer during the War of 1812 and the greater Napoleonic War is where I'm looking. Straddling the line between fighting for your country by fighting for your country's enemy...seems odd but very heroic and individualistic.
Supernatural, I've always liked legends, myths, and I like to seem them acted out as reality especially on modern times. Immortals, different demi-humans (vamps and lycans for instance and more obscure like the Buffalo woman of Lakota and other Plains tribes' legends), ghosts, fae (of the fair folk of Ireland less Tinkerbelle), and of course the end of the world. Who cannot be morbidly fascinated by the end of the world?
And now...zombie survival in a post-apocalyptic world, or ZPAW for you hip cats in the know. I like PAW stories, the Postman, Mad Max...how human society collaspses and survives is just one of the subjects that keeps me enthralled. If only I could think of ways to encompass that for anthropology or archeology research...Anyways, ZPAW is the most extreme version of the end of the world. Human society is forced to break down and you can't just wander the world like Ken Costner because there's the added deminsion of fugly things that want to feast on your innards. Writing a survival story from that aspect is challenging because it adds hardship and restraint onto the normal trials one must endure to survive without the aid of civilization.
Man, what I wouldn't do for a little less idea generation and a bit more focus and artistic work ethic....
